What Is the J.D. Power Award?

The J.D. Power Dealer of Excellence Award was created to recognize dealerships that succeed in automotive sales, customer experience, and every other aspect that goes into car buying. Not only does this award recognize dealerships that excel in these areas, but it also recognizes dealerships that succeed in the top two to two-three percentile of dealerships across the nation. That’s why not every dealership that applies will get this award and only the best of the best dealerships are even considered for this prestigious award.

How Does a Dealership Win the J.D. Power Award?

We mentioned earlier that only the top two to three percent of dealerships are considered for the J.D. Power of Excellence Award. To even be in the consideration for this award, a dealership must pass three different steps:

  • Feedback: J.D. Power uses feedback from over 25,000 dealership customers. This is done to limit the eligibility of dealerships by brand name.
  • SSI Findings: Interested dealerships have to rank among the top performers of its brand in key customer satisfaction areas that are consistent with the findings in J.D. Power’s Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) Study.
  • Audit: Dealerships must pass a dealership audit and prove that they meet or exceed J.D. Power sales best practices. Those practices include listing vehicle inventory, dealership website pricing, transparent and efficient negotiating tactics, fair trade-in value offers, and a clear and easy-to-read F&I product menu.
